About this Course
In a CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) lesson, students learn about other subjects in English. Students find them more interesting than traditional language lessons and enable them to link English to the wider world. Lessons like these are possible even for young students with limited English skills. In this course, you’ll experience classroom tested CLIL lessons that were developed in the presenter's language school, BIG BOW English Lab in Nagoya, Japan and learn how to create your own. You'll also learn how to plan CLIL based museum or field trips for your students.
Target audience:
Elementary ESL/EFL Teachers in Japan.
Duration:
Course Schedule: 4 Sessions (one 60-minute live classes per week over four weeks)
Learner Outcomes:
Students who complete this course and hand in an original CLIL lesson to use in their classes (by email) will receive a certificate from LIXON Education.
Week 1
An introduction to CLIL/Cross-curricular lessons
Why teach them? What separates a good one from a bad one?
Learn practical strategies for creating effective CLIL lessons for young learners and how you can avoid some common pitfalls.
PLUS, step-by-step instructions on how to make helpful props to use in CLIL lessons.
NOTE: Please have at least four sheets of A4 sized paper and a pair of scissors for this lesson.

Classroom tested examples of CLIL lessons (Part 1)
Experience the following classroom-tested lessons (classroom-ready worksheets included):
Animals
Describing fruit, taste buds, and my sense of taste
The water cycle
The solar system
Week 3
Classroom tested examples of CLIL lessons (Part 2)
Experience the following classroom-tested lessons (classroom-ready worksheets included):
Bugs
The food chain
Things that melt/Properties of heat and cold
Famous inventions in history
Week 4
Now it's time to create your own CLIL lesson!/How to organize a CLIL museum or field trip
Learn how to create your own CLIL lesson for your classes, using internet resources or graded readers.
